It also wouldn’t really make sense to not have Christmas in the title somehow, which is why Mistletoe & Menorahs works so well. For this movie it wouldn’t make sense to not have Hanukkah" in the title somehow. To me, that’s a missed opportunity because there is an audience for this, given the amount of Jewish families and mixed families that would tune in for that. Hallmark is doing two movies this season with Hanukkah in them, but neither of their films have Hanukkah in the title or a word about the holiday in it. We really liked the idea of representing Judaism with putting menorah in the title. We thought it was emblematic of what the movie is, the spirit of it, and both holidays. At MarVista, some of the executives were brainstorming potential titles, and one of my colleagues came up with Mistletoe & Menorahs and we just loved it. Julianna: It was originally Merry Hanukkah. Some websites listed the original title for Mistletoe & Menorahs as Merry Holiday. Then, two years later, to have a movie together that we both worked on…it’s just incredible. So it was wonderful to be able to help him to be able to leave a job that wasn’t his passion so that he could pursue writing. I had actually read his material even before we went on a date, and I really believed in his writing. He did the extras casting for the film Argo, the TV show The Good Place, etc., but that’s very time consuming, and he was trying to write around that schedule. and then working 12-hour shifts casting extras.
When I started dating Guy, he was an extras casting director and he was writing on the side, sometimes at 5 a.m. Julianna: It was such an incredible opportunity and so special for us to get to work together on a film that was so close to our hearts. I was a little worried, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience for me. Guy: We actually worked together wonderfully. When I started watching these holiday movies-which I didn’t do for a long time, but I certainly do now-Julianna and I started joking that there needs to be a Hanukkah one and… Guy Yosub: I wanted to write it since I’ve been in this realm.
